Enterprise value

What an organization plan actually adds.

The practical difference appears in how the company governs access, data, cost, and legal exposure across the team.

Central license management

01

Assign and remove seats centrally, review adoption, and remove access when responsibilities change.

Organization-wide policy

02

Administrators can control Copilot features, available models, agents, MCP access, and spending policies.

Enterprise data terms

03

GitHub states that Business and Enterprise customer data is not used to train GitHub models.

Shared usage and protection

04

AI credits are pooled at the billing-entity level; eligible plans also include contractual IP indemnity subject to applicable terms.

Business or Enterprise

Choose by governance and usage—not by the word enterprise.

01

Business

For teams that need pooled credits and centralized control.

A practical starting point when the organization needs consistent licensing, policy, budget, content controls, and business data terms.

02

Enterprise

For GitHub Enterprise Cloud organizations with heavier AI demand.

Adds roughly twice the included AI credits, priority access to selected capabilities, and deeper organization-level context and customization.

Content exclusion is not a security boundary

Exclusions can reduce specified files entering supported Copilot contexts, but GitHub documents limitations for Copilot CLI, coding agent, and IDE Agent mode. Treat repository permissions, secret management, and access controls as the primary boundary.

Era Cloud selection view

Start with the control requirement.

For most organizations moving from individually reimbursed subscriptions, Business is the first plan to evaluate. Enterprise is justified when GitHub Enterprise Cloud, higher pooled usage, priority capabilities, or deeper organization context are concrete requirements. This is Era Cloud guidance, not a GitHub recommendation.
